The team has been involved in the disposition of municipal, governmental, utility, and privately owned assets through public auctions, on-line auctions, retail liquidations, and sealed bid sales. They also conduct appraisals and property valuations. A childhood dream was realized when Tom "Spanky" Assiter, CAI, became an auctioneer and founded his company, Assiter & Associates Auctioneers, in 1983. Because of his love and passion for the business, "Spanky" Assiter has become one of the most dynamic and sought after auctioneers in the world! He has conducted auctions across the continental United States from New York City to San Diego, and from Seattle, Washington to Orlando, Florida.
In addition to the United States, "Spanky" has traveled to London, England, and has traveled multiple times to auction in Canada. He has conducted weekly engagements with wholesale auto auction companies in San Diego, Las Vegas, Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver. These auctions hire Mr. Assiter weekly for the sale of factory automobile inventories including Honda, Jaguar, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors.
For the last twelve years in Scottsdale, Arizona, he has sold the Barrett Jackson Classic Car Auction, which is billed as the greatest collector car auction in the world and is televised on SpeedChannel. "Spanky" is currently one of five auctioneers for the Keeneland Thoroughbred Racing Association which is the largest thoroughbred horse auction in the world. Keeneland sold approximately $500 million of thoroughbreds in 2002. He has also sold Red Baron's Architectural Antiques in Atlanta, Georgia, which sells millions of dollars worth of antiques quarterly. He has twice worked with Superior-Livestock Auction Company. Not only has Mr. Assiter sold commercial cattle, but he has also dabbled in purebred cattle and Arabian horse auctions.
Mr. Assiter earned his Master of Business Administration in 1981 and Bachelor of Science in Speech-Mass Communications in 1979 at West Texas State University. He attended Indiana University in 1989 to obtain the Certified Auctioneer (CAI) designation. Mr. Assiter received his degree from World Wide College of Auctioneering in 1975. Mr. Assiter has conducted seminars on the auction method of marketing at National Conventions in Lexington, Kentucky, Atlanta, Georgia, and Cancun Mexico and has spoken at over fifty state conventions across the country. He is currently under contract as an instructor at the World Wide College of Auctioneering located in Mason City, Iowa, and has been a guest instructor at the World Champion College of Auctioneering in Bakersfield, California, the Texas Auction Academy located in Dallas, Texas and the Mendenhall School of Auctioneering in Highpoint, North Carolina.
In 1991, at the National Auctioneers Association Convention held in Omaha, Nebraska, he was selected International Champion Auctioneer. He was recognized again in 1994 in Denver Colorado, when he was elected to the National Auctioneers Association's Board of Directors. He has served as Chairman of the Public Relations Committee, Chairman or Member of the International Auctioneer Championship Committee for six years, Member of the Long Range Planning Committee, and on various other committees for the 6,000-member National Auctioneer's Association. His list of achievements also includes being the 1991 Texas State Champion Auctioneer and serving as past president and in every office except secretary/treasurer for the Texas Auctioneers Association.



Tim Assiter, of Assiter & Associates, has served as an auctioneer and auction preparation specialist since the company was founded in 1983. His ability to maintain the auction momentum by keeping the buyers bidding quickly is an attribute of a top quality floor man or bid catcher.
Besides being one of the best bid catchers in the nation, he is also one of the top auctioneers in the nation. In 1998, he was honored as second runner up in the Texas State Auctioneers Contest. This honor was repeated in the 1999 Texas Auctioneers Contest. Mr. Assiter also ranked in the top fifteen finalists at the International Auctioneer Championship which was held in conjunction with the National Auctioneers Association Convention.
He has traveled a five state area for the past fourteen years and has performed over 1500 auction sales during that time. Tim has a people oriented personality and has the natural ability of keeping the crowd engaged in the bidding process. He is recognized as the expert in benefit and charity auctions. Mr. Assiter has conducted charity auctions for clients such as The March of Dimes, Special Olympics, Ducks Unlimited, Elks Foundation, Quail Unlimited, United Way, Children's Miracle Network, Make A Wish Foundation, Adult Literacy Foundation, Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, The Ronald McDonald House, The High Plains Historical Society, Multiple-Sclerosis Society and many, many, others.
Tim Assiter received his Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Animal Science and a minor in psychology from West Texas State University in 1975. After graduation and prior to joining the auction profession, he became involved in selling agricultural and heavy equipment. His experience in this area provides him with full knowledge of the value, supply and demand, and personnel in these product fields.



For the past four years, this petite, attractive young woman has succeeded in taking the auction industry by storm. In her short career she has amassed degrees of recognition that has taken some of her peers' years to achieve. In February of 1999, she won the Oklahoma State Auctioneers Association (OSAA) Rookie Champion, and in February of 2000, won the Oklahoma State Reserve Champion. She was the first female in the history of the association to achieve either of these levels.
In July of 2000 she rang in the new Millennium by winning her industry's most coveted title of International Auctioneer Champion, (IAC) Women's Division, upon her first time to compete.
During her reign as the IAC she served as the Goodwill Ambassador for the National Auctioneers Association (NAA). This responsibility included raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through benefit auctions, conducting educational and motivational seminars and workshops nationwide, and working with the media on behalf of the auction industry.
Before joining Assiter & Associates, Amy a most sought after auctioneer worked as a contract auctioneer with many auction companies nationwide conducting everything from autos and heavy equipment auctions to Gala benefit auctions, and Bison to Real Estate.
Amy is a Real Estate Sales Associate in the state of Oklahoma. She has begun educational designations within her field, such as the Certified Auctioneers Institute, (CAI), and AARE (Accredited Auctioneer of Real Estate) and is highly active in the NAA, TAA, and the OSAA. She has served on many committees including some of her favorites, the St. Jude Fundraising Committee, the International Auctioneer Champion Competition Committee, and the Membership Committee. Among her affiliations, she is also a member of Toastmasters, the National Association of Women Business Owners, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.



Prior to joining Assiter & Associates as a real estate agent and auctioneer, Keith Waters were owner and operator of Waters Auction Service in Stratford, Texas and real estate agent for Ad-Rem Land Company. Mr. Waters became a licensed real estate agent in 1994 allowing him the capability to provide complete estate dispersal to his clients. Prior to operating Waters Auction Service, Keith worked for James H. Perkins & Associates, Auctioneer of Dalhart, Texas, serving as booking agent, equipment make-ready, and auction setup and preparation specialist.
Mr. Waters brings 18 years experience to Assiter & Associates including appraisals, inspections, pre-auction setup, equipment make-ready, and real estate sales. He has extensive experience conducting all types of auctions including farm equipment, construction equipment, estates, restaurant equipment, livestock, antiques, guns, and coin collections. His real estate sales include residential, commercial, and land sales.
Mr. Waters education includes graduating from Brown's Auction School, Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1984. He attended West Texas State University from 1956 to 1958 and Texas Tech University in 1959.



Mr. John Davis of Dimmitt, Texas has been in the auction industry since 1982, where he started with Ernest St. Clare Auctioneers of Amarillo, Texas. During his two years at Ernest St. Clare Auctioneers, Mr. Davis was an auctioneer and an auction operation coordinator. In 1983, Mr. Davis joined Williams & Webb, Inc. Auctioneers also of Amarillo, Texas, where he was an auctioneer, appraiser, and auction coordinator. These two companies were known for their excellent auction set up and preparation of auction items. Mr. Davis was the lead coordinator for both firms and has carried these excellent skills to Assiter & Associates.
Mr. Davis joined Assiter & Associates Auctioneers in 1991 and has been a valuable member of the auction team. His experience in pre-auction set up and equipment preparation are second to none. His pre-auction strengths lie in developing the sales organization through innovative sales set up including display lotting and cataloguing.
Mr. Davis' education involves graduating from Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering in 1966. He attended West Texas State University in 1967 and Texas Tech University in 1968.



Dettie Byrd joined Assiter & Associates from a real estate title company where she was a real estate closing agent. Her specialty is real estate. Dettie handles all title commitments, real estate closings, and has been promoted to the office manager.


Robert "Bob" Dickerson has been in the auction business since 1987, and has been Assiter & Associate's Dallas representative since 1991.
After graduating from Missouri Auction School, he began working with Great Southwestern Auctions and Realty of Houston. He gained expert knowledge of Government Auctions while working with a national realty firm selling for the Federal Government and Banking Industry.
He has been a certified appraiser since 1995, graduating from the Appraisal Guild of America. He has conducted auctions for some of the largest non-profit organizations in the Dallas area, such as the "Juvenile Diabetes Foundation" and the "Arthritis Foundation of North Texas." Since 1987, Bob has successfully sold several million dollars in antiques and art for one of the leading auction galleries in the Dallas area. He has also worked weekly auto auctions from 1988 to the present.
In 1998, Bob was awarded Texas State Champion Auctioneer. He has been very active in the Texas Auctioneers Association (TAA), serving on the Board of Directors and chairing numerous committees for the TAA. Robert attended Richland College and Southern Methodist University.



Bandy Assiter is legacy to the auction industry, as his Father, Tim, and his Uncle Spanky have paved the way! After graduating from World Wide College of Auctioneering in 2002 and attaining a Real Estate degree from Texas Tech University in 2003, he is looking forward to a bright future in the auction industry.



Craig Davis joined Assiter & Associates immediately after graduating from World Wide College of Auctioneering in August 2002. He is a part time Auctioneer for the firm and a collectables and novelties specialist.



Darla Carthel is Assiter & Associates in house computer expert. Mrs. Carthel joined the auction firm as a part time analyst in 1983 and as a full-time employee in 1995. Before joining Assiter & Associates her work experience included a self owned business of custom computer programming. While owning this business venture she developed and maintained a complete auction software system. Mrs. Carthel was promoted to Vice President in 1999, where she oversees the daily operations of Assiter & Associates. She is also responsible for all advertising, marketing and accounting functions.
Mrs. Carthel has held the position of Instructor of Computer Information Systems and Mathematics at Eastern New Mexico University and Mathematics at Amarillo College. Courses taught at these educational facilities include: computer Systems Design; Systems Analysis; Introduction and Advanced Cobol; Introduction to Computers; Trigonometry; Basic, Intermediate and College Algebra; and Basic Math.
After leaving the teaching profession, she was employed by Mason & Hanger, a subcontractor to the United States Government, as a Systems and Procedures Analyst at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. While holding this position, she designed and implemented computer quality assurance procedures and software quality assurance procedures, maintained the budget for the Information Management Division, and acted as mediator of a multi-million dollar project between the Pantex Plant and a software engineering company.
Mrs. Carthel's education includes a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Eastern New Mexico University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Minor in Computer Information Systems from West Texas State University. While attending these universities she received numerous honors, awards, and memberships. These include the Murray Mathematics Award for two years (outstanding undergraduate math student), Edna Graham Math Award (outstanding female math student), member of Alpha Chi (national honor society), Phi Eta Sigma (freshman honor society), Pi Mu Epsilon (mathematic honor society), and Epsilon Delta Pi (computer honor society).


Regina Brook "Gina" Nelson is a multi-functional member of the Assiter & Associates staff. She is office manager for the Floydada office and her impressive computer skills immediately put her at our wireless computer clerking terminal on auction days. Gina's computer skills are not all that make her an asset to our team; her artistic design layouts come to play in brochure and advertising design.
